MacKenzie-Childs' Historic Floating Home for Sale: $1.25M

We are pleased to announce that world-renowned artists Victoria & Richard MacKenzie-Childs' floating home & studio of nearly 25 years -- earth's last remaining Ellis Island Ferryboat, Yankee Ferry -- is for sale. Currently moored in Staten Island, the majestic, one-of-one vessel is meticulously adorned floor to ceiling with the duo's signature whimsical designs that have had unsurpassed influence on the work of today’s artists and designer brands.

HISTORY

Considered one of the most historically significant ships in the United States and listed in the National Register of Historic places since 1993, Yankee was built as an iron-hulled steamship in Philadelphia in 1907, a sprawling 150 feet long, with four levels, seven bedrooms, spanning 10,000 square feet. She has cradled millions of huddled masses, from newly arriving immigrants to Ellis Island, to the wealthy en route to Block Island, to American troops during WWI and WWII, to families donning willow baskets and tennis rackets bound for island holidays.

Either tethered to a dock, on dry land, or perched atop a building, Yankee's potential intrigues not only as a home, but a: private event space, tourist attraction, museum, cocktail lounge, coffeehouse, boutique, speakeasy, bed & breakfast, restaurant... in other words, the possibilities are endless for its unique collision of history and whimsy.

The MacKenzie-Childs have worked tirelessly since 2001 for Yankee's revivification. Their creative vision has not been to merely restore a nostalgic icon, frozen in the past, but to chart a course for today's world utilizing her gracious decks and mischievous chambers as a place to come to the table and work out challenges from near and far over a slice of Kentucky Transparent Pie.
